General Staedert's flagship in flight
The Federated Army is the unified military command which incorporates the once separate armed services, including the newly formed space fleet, and they serve to protect the Federated Territories. They are a zealous organization working to identify and eliminate all threats to the territories. They recently fought the Mangalores and defeated them, to the point of forcing them to abandon their home star system. They were unaware of Evil's nature initially.
History[]
Father Vito Cornelius conveyed information regarding the Evil to the president at the President's Headquarters in Manhattan. At the same time, one of the Federated Army's warships under the command of General Staedert was first seen flying towards where Evil had appeared around Jupiter's orbit, and after deploying a probe — which incidentally gave the Evil the ability to communicate, attempted to destroy it with the ship's missiles. The attack failed, and even caused the planet's body to grow larger. Further missile barrage also had no effect on Evil, forcing the Army to withdraw.
Three more warships were sent to track its movements and behavior. They were given orders not to attack in light of the failure of conventional weapons at this point.
The Army instead reactivated Korben Dallas under General Munro, and sent him on a mission to retrieve the stones from the diva Plavalaguna that were needed in the formation of an ancient weapon that would defeat Evil. He was sent to Fhloston Paradise via a contest that had been rigged by the Army. Through Father Vito Cornelius, Dallas has come to understand Leeloo's purpose, and serendipitously ends up with her as his 'wife' for the trip to Fhloston. Having failed to get David to play the part of Korben Dallas, the priest smuggled himself inside the same shuttle to Fhloston Paradise.
The Army High Command acted as mission control for Major Dallas' autonomous covert operation aboard the Fhloston Paradise, much to the president's disgust. It was determined that additional military units would only endanger the mission. When the Mangalores attacked the ship and held everyone hostage, the Army High Command could only listen in bemusement as Dallas single-handedly regained control of the ship.
After the battle aboard the Fholston Paradise ended the the airship being destroyed, Dallas managed to get Zorg's personal starship and flew to Earth with Leeloo and the Stones. Evil was defeated, and the Army declared Dallas and Leeloo (the fifth element) heroes of the Federated Territories for their efforts.
