Father Vito Cornelius, a priest of the 50th level parish and expert in astrophenomena, is one of a long line of priests who have preserved the knowledge of Evil incarnate and how to destroy it, using the Fifth Element and the four Stones representative of the four classical Elements: Air, Earth, Fire and Water. He is currently training his youthful successor, David.
Biography[]
In his youth he joined the 50th level parish and earned respect in the community, even piquing the interest of the priest who possessed the knowledge before him. The older priest took Vito as an apprentice, passing the knowledge of the Evil to the young priest. Vito continued his position as priest, but devoted his life to the study of astrophysics and the preservation of life.
In his fifties he took on a successor of his own.
He was in his sixties when the planets aligned, allowing Evil to manifest. He went to the Federation Headquarters to offer his expertise to the President, but he wasn't believed until after it destroyed one of the Federation's battleships, bringing about the death of General Staedert and his crew. After explaining about the Stones and the Fifth Element, and how they could be used to defeat Evil, news came that the Mondoshawans had been attacked and their ship destroyed. Taking command of the situation, the President sent Father Cornelius home, believing the priest's role in events was done.
Feeling defeated, Father Cornelius slacks off on his parish work until Korben Dallas barges into his apartment and presents the alive but unconscious Leeloo, Supreme Being and the Fifth Element.
